Welcome to Romano Gems Blog!

My name is Frank Romano and I am the jeweler, gemologist and gem cutter behind Romano Gems. Long ago, I bought some cheap emerald rough and in a fit of boredom decided to try and remove one of the crystals from the host rock using a Dremel. Fast forward through a couple of months of research and I had purchased a second-hand gem cutting (faceting) machine. As they say, history had been made!

It wasn't long before I upgraded my equipment and began turning out world-class faceted gems. I began selling some of my gems to fund the cost of purchasing new rough and quickly discovered that most people didn't want to buy a "naked" gem - They wanted finished jewelry. At the same time, I discovered that EVERYONE has broken, damaged or dirty jewelry they would like to have repaired, upgraded or rehabilitated. I needed to learn how to work precious metals.

I found that making fine jewelry was significantly more difficult for me than cutting gems (perhaps I'll cover the challenges involved in another blog posting). At any rate, I stuck with it and after a few years, was moderately competent. I've worked at expanding my skill set ever since.

Today, I am able to take a piece of rough crystal and a small nugget of precious metal and unite the two into a single creation of natural beauty. The work is detailed, painstaking, eye-straining and inherently difficult, yet the process is fascinating to me and I doubt I'll ever tire of it.

20 years ago, that chunk of dirty rock with some green spots in it changed my life. I love sharing the pleasure I've experienced over the years because of that rock with my customers. If you aren't already, become a Romano Gems customer and discover what it's like to own something both breathtakingly beautiful and truly one-of-a-kind!
